Barre Workouts: Movement for the Desk-Bound
Little movements add up. Easy ways to fit activity into a busy workday, and why this former ballerina loves the low-impact barre workout.
Working a desk job can be both mentally and physically exhausting. Since the pandemic, many doctors are conducting more telehealth visits and other professionals are working from home more often, and it can be hard to work fitness into such a tiring routine. Colder weather can also mean less motivation to work out outside.
Adding little movements into your workday has a plethora of benefits. Try walking or biking to and from work, taking the stairs whenever possible, spending your breaks standing up or walking around, and practicing correct posture at your desk. 💪🏻
Barre workouts, which focus on small movements targeting specific muscle groups, are great! You can even do them at your desk or with a chair if you have privacy.
The benefits: improved balance, increased flexibility, greater bone density to help prevent osteoporosis, a faster metabolism that burns calories, enhanced cardiovascular endurance, stronger muscles, and better posture.
As a former ballerina, I love barre because it is a low-impact exercise incorporating principles of yoga, ballet, Pilates, and strength training. It engages your full body! How do you fit movement into your day?
