Try a Triangle Pose
After marathon training runs, Trikonasana helps me focus and start my day, stretching hips and hamstrings and easing back tension.
I am not an expert at yoga, but I love learning new poses every day and I'm always trying to improve my fluidity and flow. After a lot of running lately with my marathon training, I've found that waking up to do the Triangle Pose (Trikonasana) helps me concentrate better and kick off my day!
This pose STRETCHES the groin and gluteal muscles, hips, calves, shoulders, and various joints, and it helps OPEN UP the muscles of the chest and spine. Doing it consistently has helped me increase the STRENGTH of my knee and ankle joints and my abdominal and oblique muscles.
So many patients come to me for BACK PAIN evaluation. This pose can increase the FLEXIBILITY of the back muscles with a gentle twisting motion and may help relieve sciatica symptoms. Maintaining back and core elasticity is important for people with OSTEOPOROSIS.
Other benefits may include reducing stress, decreasing blood pressure, improving digestion, stimulating the abdominal organs, and promoting balance. What's not to love? It's all about the Triangle Pose for me this week!
Always speak with your physician first about whether this pose is right for you, especially if you have back or spinal injuries, dizziness, low or high blood pressure, or may be pregnant.
